Celebrating Parks and Recreation Month

JULY is PARKS & RECREATION MONTH … and TRAPS is celebrating!

First, we salute and celebrate each of you and the service you provide your community, agency and participants. Most of you have been providing services, in some form, during the Coronavirus “shut-down” and “re-opening” of Texas. Some have provided childcare for our essential services personnel; some have continued to provide the senior meals programs (pick-up or delivery) so that some of our most vulnerable citizens, remain engaged and ensured a good meal; some have embraced the opportunity to cross train or assist the men and women on our parks crews in accomplishing the daily tasks or special projects; and some have offered assistance to other parks departments or agencies. All of you have made a difference in the lives you serve!

As we begin to celebrate JULY is PARKS & RECREATION MONTH, TRAPS prepares for a new decade, by taking steps to better position the organization to serve its members and the field of parks and recreation in Texas. As of July 1st, the new Dues Structure goes into effect, which includes more professionals as a part of the TRAPS’ Agency Membership.

July 1st also is the “kick-off” for the TRAPS’ New Online Community and Members Only Site. The new Online Community and Members Only Site provides the following:

  • Ability to easily maintain your member profile
  • Add friends and colleagues as a Connection to keep in touch and share information
  • Join groups for Regions and Branches
  • Engage with other members via online community and forums
  • Share files and resources
  • Search the “member-only” directory
  • And much more

TRAPS is also proud to announce that July will include a “Call to Action Conversation Series” with Jamie Sabbach of 110%. This five-part conversation series is scheduled as follows:

Thurs, July 9 at 2:00 CST – Understand Your Fiscal Responsibility
Thurs, July 16 at 2:00 CST – Don’t Wait to Collaborate
Thurs, July 23 at 2:00 CST – The MUST HAVES in Your Community
Thurs, July 30 at 2:00 CST – Reductionism & Revenue
Thurs, Aug. 6 at 2:00 CST – Moratoriums on New Development

JULY is PARKS & RECREATION MONTH … you are parks and recreation in Texas! Thank you for your commitment, leadership and service. Let’s celebrate, engage and continue the good work!

Respectfully,

Michal Anne Lord, Ph.D., CPRP, TRS/TXC
