With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Curtis Morgan, founder of the Texas Public Pool Council. He gave 45 years of dedicated service to the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation, where he proudly served as Swim Commissioner.

Curtis was also a longtime friend and partner of the Texas Recreation and Park Society (TRAPS), where he worked closely with colleagues across the state to advance parks and recreation initiatives. His collaboration with TRAPS reflected his lifelong passion for building community connections and supporting recreation professionals.

Curtis will be remembered for his commitment to serving others, his larger-than-life presence, and his ability to make everyone feel welcome. Whether at a ballgame, a rodeo, a swim meet, or a backyard gathering, he lit up every room he entered.

Samantha Toback was dreaming about how TPWD would celebrate the April 8 total solar eclipse before she even worked for the agency. Once hired, she served as a beloved member of the State Parks Outdoor Education and Outreach team as the Texas State Ambassadors coordinator and in just a few years made a major impact on the agency and every person and volunteer that had the pleasure to work with her. Although Sam was taken too early, at the young age of 31, her co-workers and friends rest a little easier knowing she got to see the celestial event she had been dreaming about for years. Donations can be made in Sam’s name to the McDonald Observatory or the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation.
