The 2020 Institute is just around the corner and there are several ways you can prepare to make the most of your time in Galveston.
Future & Young Professionals Showcase
The Future and Young Professional Showcase at the 2020 Annual Institute and Expo is YOUR opportunity to share your visions, passions and goals for the field of recreation with a room full of like-minded professionals and future colleagues.
If selected for this exciting event, you will prepare and deliver a 4-5 minute live presentation on this year’s topic, “21st Century Skills for Parks and Recreation,” along with 8-12 other shining stars in our field.
Due January 7
Tex-ternship
The Tex-ternship Program enables outstanding young professionals 30 years of age and younger in the parks and recreation field to network with and learn from other TRAPS members.
Tex-terns are paired with TRAPS members who serve as mentors during the Institute and may attend select meetings, socials and educational sessions. After the Institute, Tex-terns must write a brief evaluation report addressing event-specific criteria. Tex-terns are eligible to receive reimbursement for Institute costs and up to four (4) Tex-terns are chosen a year.
Due December 20
Institute Scholarships
Scholarships are available to students and professionals across Texas in the parks, recreation and leisure services industries. Recipients of Institute scholarships must apply with a current professional resume and a short essay on why the Scholarship is needed and how it will be beneficial.
After the Institute, scholarship recipients must provide a 1-page summary of their experience and receipts to the Texas Recreation & Park Society to receive reimbursement of up to $1,000.

Volunteer at Institute
The TRAPS Annual Institute and Expo is THE premiere education and networking event for parks and recreation professionals in the State of Texas. The Annual Institute hosts hundreds of attendees, presenters, vendors, and volunteers each year with 80+ educational events, an exciting exhibit hall with vendors from across the nation, and of course plenty of social opportunities to build your network. The Institute Planning team works hard throughout the year to make this event happen, but we would not be able to pull it off without the support of dedicated volunteers like you during the conference!
Volunteers that commit to a minimum of 12 hours will receive a waived registration fee to the conference. This includes access to education sessions (including CEUS is applicable), entrance to the expo hall, and plenty of opportunities to connect with peers and potential employers!
