Years of Service in the Parks and Recreation Industry:
Almost 4 years
Tell us the View from YOUR Park Bench? What are you looking at as a recreation professional right now?
My view from the Park Bench as a recreational professional is that I see many people becoming more family oriented, exercising, eating well, and partaking in the creative activities/events that Park departments are implementing to keep everyone active and engage during these uncertain times.
What is the most important issue facing the park and recreation industry right now?
Keeping people active, engaged, and current with changes.
Who was your mentor and what was the most important thing you learned from him/her?
My late brother, Richard was my mentor. What I have learned from him is you get out of it what you put in it, so always make sure you put your best foot forward and give it everything you got. If I fail it’s ok, as long as I get up because you cannot continue to fail if you get up and keep moving forward.
If you magically received 100% funding, what project would you implement for your organization?
I would implement an indoor track facility for senior citizen so that they could walk anytime without their concern for the weather.
When you are trying to lift up someone else (a staff member, peer, friend) what advice do you give them?
Everything will workout whether you realize it at this very moment or not. Push through the hard things to get to the rewarding ones.
What is inspiring you right now?
Being able to provide activities for older adults which puts a smile on their faces and gives them a chance to be social with others.
How do you deal with disgruntled customers?
Continue to stay calm and understanding of their situation and how they feel.
How can we (the collective WE) be better advocates for what we do and the benefits of parks, rec, and leisure services?
Continue to show our communities what we have to offer and be sure that it includes a variety of groups and ages.
